"Left Me Wanting More" - Book Review: Refuse by Michael Bunker

This short story was a fascinating look into the dark underground world of the silo, its politics, its people. As a bibliophile I could feel the desire of the written word, the wonder of possibility found in imagining and documenting new worlds and stories and points of view. I was also reminded of the other stories I have read and seen of underground worlds, like Tad Williams' Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series, or the movie City of Ember. As we peak into the world we wonder, what tragedy drove them underground? We eagerly pick out the tidbits of technology, farming, recycling and structures that enable them to live such a different life than the one we know.

Leah is a quiet rebel in a world that demands complete obedience and unquestioning acceptance of 'their' control. If her illegal activities are found out she could lose everything and everyone. What will her small act of defiance bring about?

The story really grabbed me and left me wanting more. I eagerly await a sequel!
