Purim comes from the story of Esther, Mordecai and Haman in the Bible. It is a joyous Holy Day. It is a reminder that no matter what evil rises against the people of YHWH, He will provide a way for safety and survival. In this instance there were no 'miracles' used. But a vast array of coincidences....
Esther 9:20-22
And Mordecai wrote these things and sent letters to all the Jews, near and far, who were in all the provinces of King Ahasuerus, to establish among them that they should celebrate yearly the fourteenth and fifteenth days of the month of Adar, as the days on which the Jews had rest from their enemies, as the month which was turned from sorrow to joy for them, and from mourning to a holiday; that they should make them days of feasting and joy, of sending presents to one another and gifts to the poor.
For our own celebration we have had grandpa visit and tell the story of Esther (he is a GREAT storyteller) and I prepared BBQ Chicken Wings (YUM) and a salad with many veggies and sunflower seeds, and an assortment of many fruits. Daddy also added Cocoa Puffs for breakfast! LOL We also made some gifts for our neighbors and will be delivering them today. Oh yes, and my daughter and I dressed up like Queens. I MUST remember to get my boys some suitable costumes for next year!
Here is a great video to share with children about the story of Purim.
And now for some fun songs to enjoy on Purim!
