New Years Day? Nope.
Speaking of the Passover, Exodus 12:1-2 says,
"And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying, this month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you."
Once again I find that God has an opinion and society as a whole 1. Isn't really aware of it, 2. Doesn't care.
But I am excited!
I love learning this stuff. I love learning the Torah. I delight in the law of YHWH Elohim.
So while today is given to us by our loving God.... It is just another day. I look forward to our next holy days.
Tu B'Shevat is going to be on my birthday this year.
This is not a biblical feast, but is a day chosen by the Jews to mark the age of fruit trees. It is called the New Year of Trees. It is commonly celebrated by planting trees and eating fruits that grow on trees. They do this because the Torah states, at Leviticus 19:23-25, that for the first three years the fruit must be left alone, to fall to the ground. For the fourth year all the fruit is to be given to the Lord. I think this means that I can harvest it and give it all away. Then after that the fruit is ours. This comes with the promise of strong, healthy trees that give fruit in their season for generations.
I am really hoping for this citrus tree set. They will self pollinate, smell amazing, and eventually give my family delicious, healthy lemons, limes, and oranges.
And the actual New Year, Passover, will be here before we know it. While many make their resolutions today for the year, I find I have an opportunity. I too can start my resolutions and perhaps have built some good habits by the time my new year arrives.
Semantics... Perhaps. But I rejoice in knowing the truth.

God's Reward System - Did you know that God has a reward system? It isn't like He is some kind of arcade game, where you win points. It isn't like your credit card that gives you "money back" for certain purchases.
Biblical Holy Days - The Feast of Unleavened Bread - Friday evening my family began the celebration of our first Feast of Unleavened Bread, also known as Passover. It was so beautiful.
Christians and the Torah - Since my family has chosen to celebrate the Feasts of the Lord and learn and follow the Torah, we have come against MANY nay sayers. Most of these are arguments arise from fellow christians.
