How Do You Socialize Your Children?

Fortunately each conversation is not THIS painful.  However it always comes up!  Every single person I have spoken to asks and asks about socialization.  And no matter what I say, they don't 'hear' what I am saying.  And I get to look forward to the same comments from them almost every time the subject of homeschooling comes up.

As I watched this particular video, I considered, "What does it even mean to be 'Socialized'?

We can first look at a few definitions of the word and it's root.

Social: Adjective

Of or relating to society or its organization

Socialize:Verb

Mix socially with others.

Make (someone) behave in a way that is acceptable to their society

Socialism:Noun

A political and economic theory of that advocates that the means of production, distribution, and exchange should be owned or regulated...

(in Marxist theory) A transitional social state between the overthrow of capitalism and the realization of communism.

What??? You don't think that applies?  You don't think that our Public Schools, which are paid for by the government, using only select teachers who were taught in government accredited schools, and use only curricula accepted by government agencies might have an agenda.... of socialism?

Where else does this ingrained concern come about socialization?  How many who ask us this question even know what they are asking?

How do you teach your child to "CONFORM" and "SUBMIT" to society?

The answer for me is simple.

I don't.

Society has enough conformists and submissive drones.  What we really need out there are some WEIRD, CRAZY, COURAGEOUS, and UNIQUE people who don't think like EVERYONE else!
